MHJCA’s 25th Anniversary

Many MHJCA members came together at the Poughkeepsie Galleria’s Community Room to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our organization. The event was a potluck, with many delicious dishes to choose from!
But first, we opened the event with an invigorating taiko performance by MHJCA member Evan Tam’s group, Mujin Taiko. Then, members were kind enough to listen to a short history lesson on the founding of MHJCA. During our enjoyment of the delicious meal, we viewed a slideshow of the many photos spanning the 25-year life of the Mid Hudson Japanese Community Association. The history and photo show were developed by our ad hoc planning committee consisting of Masashi Miyake, Yoko Izu, Wayne Adams, Dorothy Baran, and myself.
We concluded the event with a raffle, which was very much the highlight of the event. Prizes ranged from gift cards from local businesses, sake from Dassai BLUE, items made or donated by our members, to 20 bags of rice.
It was so nice to see everyone together, and it felt good to celebrate this milestone in community. We thank our business sponsors and the many members who donated their time, their expertise, raffle items, and, of course, their cooking prowess so that we could celebrate together.
We have a few more events this year, and we hope to see you there!

MHJCAの創立25周年を祝うため、多くの会員がポキプシー・ギャレリア（Poughkeepsie Galleria）のコミュニティ・ルームに集まりました。当日は持ち寄り（ポットラック）形式で行われ、数多くの美味しい料理が並びました！
イベントの幕開けは、MHJCA会員であるエヴァン・タム（Evan Tam）さんが所属する「無尽太鼓（Mujin Taiko）」による、活気あふれる太鼓の演奏でした。続いて、MHJCAの設立の経緯を振り返る短い歴史紹介に、会員の皆様が熱心に耳を傾けてくださいました。美味しい食事を楽しみながら、ミッド・ハドソン日本人会（Mid Hudson Japanese Community Association）の25年にわたる歩みを記録した写真のスライドショーを鑑賞しました。この歴史紹介とスライドショーは、三宅雅志、伊豆洋子、ウェイン・アダムス、ドロシー・バラン、そして私の各氏からなる特別企画委員会が制作したものです。
イベントの締めくくりは、大きな盛り上がりを見せた抽選会でした。賞品は、地元企業のギフトカードや「獺祭ブルー（Dassai BLUE）」の日本酒、会員の手作り品や寄付された品々、さらにはお米20袋など、多岐にわたる豪華なラインナップとなりました。
皆様と一堂に会し、この大きな節目を共に祝えたことは本当に素晴らしい体験でした。スポンサー企業の皆様、そして時間や専門知識、抽選会の賞品、さらには腕を振るった手料理などを提供し、このお祝いを実現させてくださった多くの会員の皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。
今年度もまだいくつかのイベントを予定しておりますので、ぜひまた皆様とお会いできることを楽しみにしております！
