Dassai Sake Brewery Sakura Matsuri

New and veteran MHJCA volunteers came together at Dassai sake brewery on a beautiful Sunday in April for the Sakura Matsuri. The cherry trees were blooming and the event was very well-attended! Our members mostly wore kimono or hanten, and enjoyed introducing origami and the "chopstick game" to visitors.
There were many children and their parents who wanted to make origami frogs, cranes, hats, boats and ninja stars. Volunteers were also able to show more complex origami such as flowers, balls and boxes.
Some adults were able to challenge our "chopstick champion" to move beans from one bowl to another, and even some children came to try their skills.
Dassai provided a light lunch of sushi to the volunteers, and we were able to take turns watching the taiko performance, the tuna-cutting demonstration, and see the wares of the vendors at the event.
Attendees appreciated the activities, and the opportunity to ask questions and share about their experiences with Japanese culture. We had origami requests right up until the end of the event. We hope to continue partnering with Dassai to celebrate Japanese culture during their public events.

獺祭酒造「桜まつり」
午後12時〜4時00分（会場：ハイドパークの獺祭酒造）
4月の晴れ渡る日曜、獺祭酒造にて開催された「桜まつり」に、MHJCAの新規およびベテランボランティアたちが一堂に会しました。桜の木々は満開を迎え、会場は大勢の来場者で大変な賑わいを見せました！参加した会員の多くは着物や半纏（はんてん）を身にまとい、来場者に折り紙や「お箸ゲーム」を紹介することを楽しんでいました。
会場には多くの親子連れが訪れ、カエル、鶴、帽子、船、手裏剣などの折り紙作りに熱心に取り組んでいました。ボランティアたちは、花、ボール、箱といった、より複雑な折り紙の作り方を教えることもできました。
大人の中には、私たちの「お箸チャンピオン」に挑み、お椀からお椀へと豆を移すタイムトライアルに挑戦する方もいれば、その腕試しにやってくる子供たちの姿も見られました。
獺祭酒造様からはボランティア向けに軽食としてお寿司が振る舞われ、私たちは交代で休憩を取りながら、太鼓の演奏やマグロの解体ショーを鑑賞したり、会場に出店している各ブースの商品を見て回ったりして楽しみました。
来場者の皆様は、こうした体験型アクティビティに加え、日本の文化について質問したり、自身の体験談を語り合ったりできる機会を大変喜んでくださいました。イベント終了の直前まで、折り紙を作ってほしいというリクエストが絶えませんでした。今後も獺祭酒造様と連携し、同社が主催する一般公開イベントを通じて、日本の文化を広める活動を続けていきたいと考えております。7月に開催される「七夕まつり」にも、ぜひご注目ください！
