Mochitsuki Event December 2025

On Sunday, December 14, our annual mochitsuki (mochi-making) event was held in the Community Room.

Although we considered canceling the event due to the bad weather and snow that morning, the snow stopped around 10 AM, and the event proceeded as planned from 1 PM. While some people were late due to snow removal and others canceled, we had 32 people in attendance, including members and guests.

The new officers for 2026 were introduced and a group photo was taken. Then we served fresh mochi with various toppings. Once everyone had a chance to sample everything and their stomachs settled a bit, we began the traditional mochi pounding using a mortar and pestle. The first batch was too soft and difficult to pound properly, but the mochi was very stretchy. The second batch was just the right consistency, and the members enjoyed pounding the mochi while shouting encouragement.

Everyone enjoyed eating the mochi and catching up with people they hadn't seen in a while. Two new members quickly blended in and enjoyed themselves, making for a warm and friendly atmosphere. Members were already suggesting ideas for next year's mochi-making event, which clearly shows how much everyone enjoys it.  At the end, everyone received a bag of mochi to take home, and the event concluded successfully.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the shortage of toppings, which we thought we had prepared enough of. We will make sure to prepare even more next time.

12月14日(日)にコミュニティールームにて恒例の餅つきイベントが開催されました。

当日の朝が雪という悪天候で中止すべきか考慮しましたが、10時ごろには雪も収まり予定通り午後1時から行われました。

除雪などで遅れて見える方や、キャンセルした方もおりましたが会員、ゲストも含め32人が出席されました。

2026年度の新役員の紹介があり、集合写真を撮り、まず餅つき機で作られた餅が振る舞われました。例年と同じく各種のトッピングが

用意され、一通り味わって少しお腹も落ち着いたところで、臼と杵で餅をつくパフォーマンスです。1度目は柔らか過ぎ、うまく突けませんでしたがよく伸びる餅でした。2度目はちょうど良い堅さで会員が掛け声をかけつつ、餅つきを楽しみました。

皆さんお餅を食べながら、久しぶりに会う方々との会話を楽しみ、日本に興味がある新会員の若い男性2名もすぐに打ち解け楽しまれ和気藹々としたひと時でした。会員からはすでに来年の餅つきのアイデアなども出て、いかに皆さんが餅つきを楽しみになさっているかよくわかります。帰宅時には用意されたお土産用の餅も手渡され、無事に終えることができました。

十分に用意したつもりのトッピングが足りずにご迷惑をおかけしましたが、次回はさらに十分用意するようにいたします。
